A Bahrain cross stitch pattern from our Tiny Little Countries collection: a small island in the flag's red and white, split by the five-point zigzag that only Bahrain and Qatar carry. Three DMC colours, 414 stitches.
The five points on Bahrain's flag stand for the five pillars of Islam. Bahrain has been the Gulf's crossroads since the pearl-diving days, and decades of navy postings, banking careers, and expat years have given plenty of people a soft spot for the little island. This one stitches quickly and frames well beside its Gulf neighbours.

Ancient Dilmun, the trading civilisation of Mesopotamian legend, sat on this island four thousand years ago, and Bahrain's pearls were prized from Rome to the courts of India long before oil. The name means "two seas," for the sweet springs that rise through the salt water around its shores.
