Samoa was the first Pacific nation to reclaim its independence, and the Southern Cross on its flag is the same constellation the diaspora looks up at from Auckland, Sydney, and Brisbane. A small stitch of home for anyone living fa'a Samoa wherever they are, or a keepsake from a holiday on the islands.

Two main islands hold most of Samoa: Upolu with the capital Apia, and Savai'i, one of the largest islands in Polynesia. Independence came in 1962, first in the Pacific, and the flag's five stars map the Southern Cross exactly as it hangs over the islands at night.
